Conservatives Must Heed Warnings to Win Lowcountry State House Special Election
We are now at the end of the year, and Republicans should act with urgency in the upcoming special election for state House District 98 in Dorchester County. President Trump won the district by six points in 2024. Conservative, decorated Air Force Veteran Greg Ford is the Republican candidate, facing Democrat Dr. Sonja Ogletree Satani. Ogletree Satani was unsuccessful in 2024 election against former state Rep. Chris Murphy.
Good news, right? Not if this year’s previous elections are an indication of the future. Thus far this year, Democrats have flipped several state legislative special elections, including districts that were previously strong Republican seats. In the dozens of legislative special elections in 2025, Democrats have outperformed their 2024 totals in nearly all of them.
Furthermore, in neighboring Georgia, Democrats just captured a Trump +12 state house district. Georgia Democrats defeated two statewide incumbents in the statewide Public Service Commission races in landslides with nearly 60% of the vote. New Jersey and Virginia were a catastrophe both statewide and legislatively. In thriving Miami, Democrats just took the mayor’s office for the first time since 1997 with 59% of the vote.
Earlier this year in the county at hand, Dorchester, was possibly the most alarming result of them all. Democrat Peter Smith Jr. carried a county council district won by Trump by a whopping 30 percentage points.
My point is not to depress you, but to show the sense of urgency the left shows. Special elections and off-year elections are low turnout affairs, but the left is made of activists. Activists show up to vote, and they are. Dorchester County Democrats are activating a strong get out the vote effort as we speak. When President Trump is not on the ballot, Republicans do not perform well.
The election in District 98 is important for the Republicans to hold, but it is even more important because Ford is looking to replace the liberal uniparty state Murphy. Conservative, freedom-loving patriots must take part in electing Ford and Pastor John Lastinger in House District 88 in Lexington County on December 23rd.
Volunteer and donate to Ford by clicking here and for Lastinger by clicking here. They would join Lee Bright in the state senate and Dianne Mitchell in the state house. Both are running unopposed on December 23rd in the upstate and the result would be a conservative sweep in this fall’s legislative elections.
